The Door of Silence

M usic is not just sound, in fact, sound is not really the foundation of music . Can a ballerina dance without sound? Of course, and it's still a musical experience. According to Leibniz , music is a n experience of the soul in relation to the order of time, performed by counting, albeit an unconscious counting process . Can we count unconsciously? Leibniz seems to suggest that arithmetic, or more precisely, the action of counting natural numbers, i s a fundamental mental process that occur s out of the focus of our attention. Therefore, unconscious counting , or better, our experience of the unfolding of order and harmony in the course of time, would be a full liminal action. It is an action in the limit, sub-limen action, and sublime action. It happens in the threshold of conscious formation, and therefore with a transforming potential for individual identity as no other art form has. There is a basic intuition of the experience of time that music and mat...

Seeds of Transpersonal Soul

We can think about the composition of the Tripartite Soul in terms of seeds. Anaxagoras of Clazomene used the concept more than 2.500 years ago in order to form a representation of Reality. The seeds that our Triple Soul brings from other lives, the seeds of transpersonality, continue their course in a fundamentally unconscious way in relation to the small and fragile narrative of identity with which we identify, a narrative that is basically emotional and intellective. From the point of view of the seed, present, past and future coexist. The image of an event that is going to happen is an emotional and intellectual image that can only be meaningfully produced when the mental and emotional processes are mature so that the content that was always in you as a seed resonates in them. Every day we receive projections of these seeds in dreams, but we cannot make them conscious if our mind and our emotion are not harmonized with the Volitive Soul, so we forget the forma...

Masks and Ego

The ego is the force of psychic centroversion, that which establishes points or frames of reference. Without the coordinate point (0,0) we cannot orient ourselves or act. The ego is the force that builds an unlimited number of references, of centers around which different formations of the Soul will appear. In Sanskrit it is called Ahankara. Aham means “I”, kara is “the process of doing or carrying out”. As a compound word, Ahankara means “the process of making or uttering the ‘I’ ( aham ).” The ego is an action, a force that establishes or says the “I”, that lays a fundamental reference stone with respect to another action. For example, the human organism spontaneously performs the physiological action of seeing, the organ of sight is set in motion automatically, and automatically a force also appears that assigns another action to the function of vision: the action that says “I ”. The synthesis is “I see.” It also happens in animals, for the action ...

Person

We learn by repetition, but we understand by sympathy. Musical harmony, the series of overtones, is the expression of unity in multiplicity that occurs due to sympathetic resonance. The Remembrance, the Dhikr that the Sufis speak of, is that: resonance through sympathy, letting vibrate, allowing life to activate the seed that our soul wishes to express in this existence. The identity mask can hinder that “sympathy vibration”. As you know, the Latin word “persona” literally means the mask of the theater actor. It is through that mask that the actor “sounds” his/her part in the work, “per-sonat”, “through-sounds”, but the actor is not the mask, and she knows it. In the hells of the Hindu, Jain and Buddhist traditions, their inhabitants are completely absorbed in the scene before them, just as the cat fascinated with the ball of wool forgets everything around it, and they do not remember that they are wearing the mask of a person who suffers in a particular hell. This ...

Persona

The Spiritual Mask

All those who begin to walk along the so-called spiritual paths hear to talk about the concept of “enlightenment” from very early on. It is identified both with a particular psychological state of a person and with a process that that person carries out with greater or lesser efforts. Psychological states are states of our Tripartite Soul, not states of “I Am.” The “I Am” is always what it is, it does not become anything in particular although nothing is without the “I Am”. What does enlightenment consist of?” Allow me to clarify another more fundamental question: “Who is enlightened?” The answer is simple: the ego is illuminated. Let's clarify this. If enlightenment is a process or a state of our Soul, when we create an intellectual image of that state, we are creating a narrative of that particular state, and we will give one description or another, but using conceptual representations, which are always the result of an egoic action of centroversion of the organis...

Reading the World

It is fascinating to observe how the veils fall over memory, the continuous and silent action of the force of Oblivion, the fine rain that dissolves the precarious transpersonal identities of our masks. Do you remember when you learned to read? Go back there for a moment, lift the veil. Do you remember the joy it gave you to achieve that feat? You thought you were making an effort to transform those signs into meaning, but your effort consisted simply of controlling your impulse to run and play. The effort was not the reading that came to you as an inheritance of your humanity, but rather managing for an instant and unconsciously to invoke Presence and focus your Child Consciousness, the effort of letting something in you begin to remember an invisible world appearing through words attached to meanings. You became ecstatic seeing things pop up from nowhere, breathed by your Divine Creative Breath, the Word that spoke the World, which placed it in front of you ...

Appearance of emotional and intellective Consciousness out of the Volitive Soul

T here are two fundamental forms of identi ty and identification that require to be understood in relation to the appearance of emotional and intellective consciousness out of the Volitive Soul . On the one hand, the world is a morphism or map of the human physiology , and on the other, the individual is a n morphism of the group. The identity of the external world is a projection of our own conditionings. The material for that projection is taken from an indefinite amount of energy information outside the organism. The organism filters out the world according to its inner order, and mirrors that order into the world . Once project ed the morphism of the human (individual and collective) acquires a linguistic objectification that produces the physical object as such as an element of interchange and communication among the group members and of the group with the integrated objectified image called “world” or “nature”. Objectification is conditioned by what affective ...

Understanding Consciousness in terms of the information integration of a system.

Question : can you expound further on the use/definition of consciousness or will in the sense that they apply to order systems? If I were to Google the term consciousness, something like being aware of one’s surroundings comes up. How does one measure or determine this presence in any ordered system? The question is in relation to post: https://transpersonalphilosophy.blogspot.com/2024/01/what-is-volitional-or-volitive-soul.html This is the very ancient topic of panpsychism (Anima Mundi), which has recently become a scientific theory thanks to information theory. It is defended by Giulio Tononi, who was working with Gerald Edelman (do you remember Edelman?) on various theories about Consciousness. It is an extensive topic but basically the idea is the following: any system capable of integrating information manifests a degree of consciousness, no matter how small that degree may be. It is new only from the narrow traditional point of view of contemporary science, si...

What is the Volitional or Volitive Soul?

The Volitive Soul is the first to appear in relation to Life. In a certain sense, the Will is prior to the organic world as our ancestors understood. The earth and the orography, waters, fire and air are expressions of the Volitional Soul. The Volitive Soul goes beyond the cell and the molecules themselves. What we call matter in the strictest sense, atoms and subatomic particles, already manifest pure volitional dynamics, without the intervention of other Soul Forms. This Volition is a basic form of Consciousness. Any ordered System expresses a form of Consciousness, no matter how basic it may be, that is, what we call the non-animated material Universe, is Volitional Consciousness, ordered energy, although not organically, in the common chemical sense of this word.

Questions by Emily, Answers by Oscar

Question  “…Understanding our life in a broader, transpersonal way, where meaning is finally revealed to intuition.” This sounds nice Oscar. If I could tap into an intuitive sense of meaning this would be a great buoy to my life. I find that in most traditional therapies there is a great deal of “habit-making” whereby the individual is meant to transform their life by modifying their actions and responses to correct ones written for them. I understand, personally, the feeling of being trapped in my own automatic responses, so I appreciate the goal to grant ourself a more conscious existence through new habits. However, I sometimes feel this approach does fail to address our deeper will; beyond that to reduce suffering. As if to be more conscious of our actions is the end goal of all problems? Would you say that transpersonal philosophy approaches the “problem with being” not from an action or solution position but from a broader curiosity and understanding posit...

On Transpersonal Philosophy Practice

Most of our life “problems” have their origin in our interaction with others. Our culture shapes the scenarios in which our psychic experience on this Earth will unfold. The personal and social relationships that derive from that particular social structure will determine our livelihood and our growth, our values and expectations, and in these contexts the person who enjoys and suffers the fascinating experience of life will be constructed. Perhaps the greatest difficulty in this experience is the individual inability to make a balanced evaluation of the problems and well-being that affect us. This inability also occurs at the social level, since cultural self-absorption prevents the breadth of perspectives necessary to understand human movement as a whole. In the same way that we cannot form a complete or adequate image of a city if we always remain inside it and do not know what is outside it, we cannot satisfactorily understand the identity of a culture by forming only ...
